Anna U Davis: Road to Recovery
Renowned Washington, DC artist – by way of Lund, Sweden, Anna U Davis will exhibit an important body of work that delves into a powerful personal visual journey of living life with breast cancer. According to Davis, “1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. Breast cancer in women under the age of 40 is rare; less than 4%. Many women under 40 go undiagnosed because there is a common misconception in society that they are “too young” for breast cancer. However, breast cancer can strike at any age. I had no family history, but as it turned out, on March 21, 2013, I was diagnosed with multifocal invasive breast cancer at the age of 37. “Road to Recovery” is a collection of mixed media paintings exploring my journey from diagnosis, through treatment and into recovery.”

Road to Recovery runs from March 25, through May 18, 2024, with an Opening Reception on Saturday, April 6, from 5 – 8 pm and an Artist Talk on Saturday, April 27, from 2 – 4 pm.

The Genesis Project: Volume 4
Brentwood Arts Exchange is pleased to announce, “The Genesis Project: Volume 4,” a continuation of a collaborative wall exhibition featuring Kay Lee and Becky McFall.

“The Genesis Project” is an ambitious, year-long collaborative wall exhibition, featuring a group of 10 artists selected by visual art stakeholders in the Gateway Arts District. During each “Volume,” selected artists will come together to create an immersive wall piece. Each Volume will allow artists to use previous work as inspiration to work over or alongside the original piece.

Fueled by an unwavering passion, Kay Lee creates mesmerizing pieces that captivate and evoke emotions. Her art leaves an indelible mark on anyone who beholds it, whether it’s joy, sadness, anger, or calmness. She’s a master of acrylic paints, palette knife paintings, and an array of other artistic ventures like murals, logos, digital illustrations, stationery, and clay creations. Becky McFall specializes in portraiture, mixed-media, mobiles, and biology-inspired art. Her work often uses natural and recycled materials. She uses her experience as a former art teacher to inform her work, having used a wide variety of artmaking techniques, from batik to repoussage, from ceramics to oils. She experiments with combining materials as well as exploring three-dimensional space.

“The Genesis Project: Volume 4” runs March 25-May 18, with an Opening Reception on April 6, 5-8 pm and Artist Talk on April 27, 2-4 pm.
