Reception: Thursday, July 15 from 7pm to 9pm
VisArts presents This Moment of Rupture, a juried national survey of contemporary ceramics that showcases a broad spectrum of works that celebrate traditional forms while challenging conventional definitions of craft. The exhibition is in the Kaplan Gallery from July 9-August 8.
During “this moment of rupture” – the concurrent crises of the pandemic, racial uprisings, climate change, and economic decline – how have ceramic artists responded? Is there a renewed sense of emotional purpose? Is activism playing a role in contemporary ceramic practice?
Artists featured in this exhibition work in an expansive variety of media, but they all incorporate ceramics in some way – via traditional methods, through more contemporary processes such as 3D printing, as part of a performance or mixed media installation, and more.
Artists: Aodan, Adam Bradley, Jackie Brown, Marianne Chenard, Lauren Chipeur, Hannah Duggan, Lori Katz, Jeff Kell, John Manion, Arny Nadler, Dorothy Patch, Meg Stein, Jessica Teckemeyer, Megan Van Wagoner + Erik Thor Sandberg, Elizabeth West, and Ritter Zhang.
- Monday – Friday: noon – 4pm
