Event: Sunday, April 24 from 1pm to 3:30pm
Join VisArts for F.E.A.S.T. 2022: Mutual Aid on Sunday, April 24 from 1-3:30 PM on VisArts’ Rooftop.
F.E.A.S.T. at VisArts (Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics) is a bridge between artists and the community. The program funds creative, thoughtful art projects that impact the community with donations from participants who review proposals, talk with the thinkers behind each idea, and vote to award a micro grant to the winning artist.
Throughout the pandemic, people have supported their community through actions spanning from helping a neighbor to creating a new free grocery delivery service. This outpouring of altruism and empathy has helped protect individuals and communities in the midst of disaster. While we’ve all been permanently changed as a result of Covid-19, the feeling of urgency is beginning to fade, as it often does after a crisis. As a result, we’ve wondered:
- What if mutual aid organizations are the ones setting the precedent for a model of support?
- How can we continue to nurture the treasured generosity we have seen since March 2020?
- How can we sustain mutual aid practices in the future?
For this year’s F.E.A.S.T., we asked DMV artists to submit proposals that address the theme of MUTUAL AID and help sustain the landscape of outreach in our local communities.
Attendees will enjoy a communal meal and vote for their favorite project proposal. The artist who wins the most votes will be awarded a micro grant of up to $2,000, funded by event participants.
To support F.E.A.S.T. 2022, please donate a minimum of $10 to purchase a ticket; 100% of donations fund the micro grant. If you can’t attend but want to support an artist’s project, please donate a minimum of $10 to receive an email with a link to vote.
VisArts is located at 155 Gibbs Street, Rockville, MD.
