Vivid Solutions Gallery presents a solo exhibition by artist Carolina Mayorga. A digital installation, this exhibition is the first part of PINK: The Art of Infatuation and Embellishment. This is a three-part multimedia project that comments on ethnicity, gender, and the role that aesthetics and beauty play in popular culture. La Vie en Rose is a video-installation based on reactions to issues of war and violence.
La Vie en Rose runs November 13 – January 8 at Vivid Solutions Gallery (1231 Good Hope Road, SE, Washington DC 20020, 202-631-6291). An artist reception will be held on November 13 from 6 – 8 pm. The artist will also have a performance during the opening reception at 6:30pm. Gallery Hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am – 7 pm.
An artist talk with Carolina Mayorga will be in Vivid Solutions Gallery on December 4 at 6 – 8 pm.
Mayorga says about the work, “My work addresses issues of social and political content. These themes often translate into site-specific installations and multimedia pieces including video, performance art, photography and drawing.”
About the Artist:
A Colombian-born and naturalized American citizen, Carolina Mayorga has exhibited her work nationally and internationally for the last 15 years. Her work is part of national and international collections and has been reviewed in various publications in Colombia, Sweden, Spain and the United States including the Washington Post, The Washington City Paper, The Baltimore City Paper, The Boston Globe, and Kuriren, Lulea, Sweden among others. Mayorga received a BFA in Art and Textiles in Bogotá, Colombia and a MFA in sculpture from the University of Kansas, Lawrence Kansas. The artist lives and works in Washington, DC.
