Cathy Abramson’s painterly images examine and capture the ordinary moments, chance encounters and fragments of urban life that repeat daily. Even though these moments seem unimportant, together they underscore the transient nature of our experience in an urban environment — an environment of constant change. Capturing those moments highlight the joys and frustrations of the urban rhythm and underscore the vitality of contemporary life. Influenced by the neighborhoods of Kennedy Street, NW, DC, Bethesda, Maryland and elsewhere, the artist reflects and invents scenes that are at once about history, change, nostalgia and social struggle. Several of her paintings focus on Kennedy Street, NW as is appears now and she plans another series in a year or two to see what has transpired.

Abramson studies painting locally at the Compass Atelier at Artists & Makers Studios in Rockville where she maintains a studio. She has exhibited at many other locations on the east coast, in online juried exhibitions, and was a featured artist in Artsy Shark in 2015.
