Opening Reception: Friday, January 12 from 6pm to 9pm

Artful Sunday at Waverly Artist Talk: January 28, 2-4pm

Leni Berliner’s exhibition of paintings is entitled …going for a walk because her intention in landscape painting is to invite the viewer to share her experience of clearing her head in nature, and imagine themselves in the places she depicts. These paintings convey the mood or energy of a place. Instead of making a realistic depiction of a landscape, she develops her images through simplification or impressionism rather than abstraction. Her work has been called lyrical, moody, dynamic and peaceful depending on the effect of the paintings.

She begins by making sketches of a real place, using life drawing techniques of gesture and contour, and taking photographs to use as references. Although the paintings are all based in reality, some of them are imaginative creations and most use acrylics, but she has also experimented with mixed media.

In the early 2000s Ms Berliner studied drawing and landscape painting at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC. Since 2010 she has focused on landscapes and exhibited in both local and New York galleries.
