Safe Passage Through the Wilderness by Kim A. Richards; Acrylic on canvas, 84 x 60

Painter Kim Richards presents a body of work rich in biblical and allegorical references in her solo exhibition “Into the Wilderness,” on view at The Art League Gallery.

“Wilderness,” says Richards, is a metaphor for life—its peaks and valleys. “People can get lost and feel alone in the wilderness, and it can also be a source of comfort and peace, solitude, and clarity.” Her series of oil and acrylic paintings, inspired by biblical scriptures, portray a lush wilderness where a young woman journeys through various scenarios encountering manifestations of God along the way.

“My paintings work together to present a narrative of being called into the wilderness, being equipped for what may lie ahead, facing challenges, and finally coming out restored,” Richards says. “Through them, I aspire to give the assurance that we are not alone. We have the ultimate guide and protector who helps us to navigate and survive this wilderness—God.

“Into the Wilderness” is on view through August 6.
