This November Honfleur Gallery and The Gallery at Vivid Solutions will host exhibits that serve as both retrospective looks back and glimpses of things to come from two homegrown cultural projects. Winter Recap: Honfleur Gallery Collection at Honfleur Gallery showcases a range of works from the gallery’s collection, representing local, national, and international artists. To celebrate FotoWeekDC 2013, Worn Creative is putting its RAW Files on display at The Gallery at Vivid Solutions. On the heels of Worn Magazine’s sixth issue, the exhibit will feature a look back at previous issues and sneak preview of Issue 6 “The Raw Issue” and other exclusive behind-the-scenes views into the production of the locally-produced fashion, style, and art magazine.
Winter Recap: Honfleur Gallery Collection brings together a mix of art that draws from past exhibitions and works by represented artists, including pieces by Cyril Anguelidis, Stephan LaPlanche, John K. Lawson, Arie Mandelbaum, Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann, Delphine Perlstein, Ben Skinner, and Gustavo Diaz Sosa. Since opening in January 2007, Honfleur Gallery has produced more than 50 exhibitions, presenting the work of local, national and international artists. Experimental media and installation works are welcome at Honfleur alongside more traditional art media. Implementing a diversity of projects is a consistent goal. Exhibitions at Honfleur range between thematic exhibitions, group shows, international residencies, solo exhibitions, experimental projects and artist collaborations. The gallery is a project of Arch Development Corporation, an organization that is dedicated to the use of the arts as a catalyst for local revitalization in Anacostia and that has been a member of the Anacostia Community for over 20 years.
RAW Files features the most stand-out images from the past five issues of Worn Magazine, a sneak preview of images from the upcoming Issue 6 “The Raw Issue” before its official release, behind the scenes video showing the magazine printing process, and a selection of unpublished images from past editorial shoots. The exhibition features photography by Nicole Aguirre, Joshua Yospyn, and Amber Mahoney. Worn Magazine was founded in 2009 by photographer Nicole Aguirre as a rebellion against the staid perception of Washington, DC and the lack of high quality media focused on the city’s young, creative, and racially diverse population. The magazine features original fashion photography, spotlights on the contemporary artists, in-depth stories on creative entrepreneurs, and has won several grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities including the Young Artist Grant, Small Projects Grant, and Community Arts Grant. Worn Magazine’s RAW Issue will be released in November, following the exhibition at The Gallery at Vivid Solutions.
