Opening Reception: Saturday, April 14 from 4pm to 6pm
DC-area fine artist and arts educator, Angela White, explores abstract landscapes and the human dimensions of memory, experience, and perception in Marshes, Seas, and Mountains.
“My landscapes are not literal interpretations,” says Ms. White. “By depicting constant movement, natural rhythms, and a sense of place, these works seek to spark deeper awareness of the many worlds that lie beneath any apparent surface. These seemingly lonely places are actually brimming with life. The intricacies and interpenetrations of nature emphasize that we are all part of a greater whole, with no real separation between our human experience and the natural world. My objective is to instill this feeling of interconnectedness in the viewer.”
The collection of 18 pieces in Marshes, Seas, and Mountains were created in response to the artist’s experience of a place. Layers of art materials and personal experiences record the journeys to these places. Among other things, Marshes, Seas, and Mountains tells the stories of her regular visits to her mother, living on the eastern shore, and to her son, living on the west coast.
As part of the exhibition, on April 28 (4pm – 5:15pm), Wohlfarth Galleries will host “Nourishing Yourself with the Elements,” an hour of art, poetry, and meditation with mindfulness teacher Rebecca Hines and artist Angela White.
