Painter and author Larry Witham exhibits more than 60 works in oil in a two-day show, Landscape, Still Life, and Figure, representing plein air and studio inspirations.

For 35 years, Witham was a noted journalist and author in the Washington DC area. In 2015 he returned to full-time painting, a craft in which he earned his college degree 40 years earlier. Witham has been active in plein air events in Maryland and beyond, and is notable for carrying on the kind of “new realism” he learned as a young painter in Northern California in the 1970s. Witham is also the author of 16 books, the last four on art and art history. His Piero della Francesca was a finalist in the 2015 Pen Literary Awards for biography.

Witham has exhibited his plein air works in Baltimore, Annapolis, Ocean City, Frederick, Chadds Ford and Wilmington, Del., and Long Beach City, NJ, in addition to several venues in Montgomery County.

The public is invited to enjoy a wide variety of painterly moods in Witham’s exhibit. Glen Echo Park is also a sublime destination for its urban calm, fresh air and the historic ambiance of a long-time Washington-area retreat.
