American Art since 1945

A study of 20th (and early 21st) century American art, this course focuses on the phenomenon of New York’s rise as a world art center after 1945. Emphasis is on painters and sculptors most significant in the development of the first truly American art styles. Major movements and trends will be covered including abstract expressionism, pop art, minimalism and photo realism as well as the multiplicity of styles, forms and media current since the 1980’s.
