Saturday, March 12 & Saturday, April 16 – Arts Educators’ Professional Development Workshop Series
All arts educators are invited to participate in this two-part workshop led by Kate DeCiccio, CHAW teaching artist, who brings a wealth of experience in curriculum development and creative strategies in a variety of environments for teaching artists. These workshops are hands-on with art-making activities and discussions that will reveal new perspectives in how we approach teaching and art as a way of life. This is a really exciting opportunity to engage more deeply with our roles as teachers, artists, and how they can be brought together to make us even more effective in the classroom. The workshops will be held in two parts, both at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th St. SE.

  • Why Do We Teach? (part I) – Saturday, March 12, 10am – 2pm: How we can successfully streamline the passion for our own art-making into our teaching practice & vice versa.
  • Strategies for Creative Problem Solving & Critical Thinking (part II) – Saturday, April 16, 10am – 2pm: Focus on ways to apply Creative Strategies to lesson plans and hook young learners into art and artful thinking. This training will help you develop engaging  “problems” and scaffolding to aid students in discovering individual creative solutions.
  • Cost to attend is $25 for one day or $45 for both. To confirm your attendance: please call CHAW at 202-547-6839.  You do not need to attend the first session to attend Part II.
