Virtual Lunar New Year Celebration  
Saturday, February 5, 10 a.m. ET 
Let’s ring in the Year of the Tiger! Celebrate Lunar New Year online with the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States of America. We are excited to present this beloved annual celebration online this year. Enjoy streamed video performances of dances, acrobatics, and yo-yo tricks by the Madison Chinese Dance Academy. Then watch demonstrations of traditional Chinese crafting and Lunar New Year traditions, including the classic lion dance. There is fun for the whole family during this special celebration!

Luce Unplugged 10th Anniversary Virtual Concert with Oh He Dead

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is celebrating ten years of Luce Unplugged, the concert series beloved by local musicians across the DMV! Join us for a special virtual anniversary concert featuring a performance by DC-based indie soul-sensation Oh He Dead. Led by Cynthia “C. J.” Johnson and Andy Valenti, Oh He Dead embodies the innovation and independent spirit that we love from DC’s vibrant music scene. Jam out as the band combines classic R & B influences with poignant lyrics and celebrates a decade of music at SAAM.

Beyond the Studio Virtual Workshop: Knitting with Fiber Artist Amy Wike 
Sunday, February 27, 1 p.m. ET 
Join the Smithsonian American Art Museum for this engaging virtual knitting workshop. Learn basic knitting techniques with step-by-step instruction from fiber artist and lifelong knitter Amy Wike. Through her work, Wike demonstrates the complexities of language and speech patterns by knitting sculptures based on transcriptions of Morse code.
Please note that space is limited for this program, and registration is required. Participants must register by 7 p.m. ET on February 6.
Materials kit includes:
  • Pair of knitting needles
  • Yarn
  • Instructional guide and resource packet
  • Participants will also need sketch paper, a pencil, and tape.
