Members Only Activity: Cyanotype Holiday Cards

Join Pyramid’s Papermaking Associate Will Burke and fellow members to make unique cyanotype holiday cards, using natural materials. Like with workshops at Pyramid, seats are limited and registration is required. Open to members only. learn more

Hyattsville Figure Drawing Group
Every Tuesday, 6–9 pm | $15 for Pyramid members, $20 for non-members 
Each weekly session begins with 5-minute warm-up poses with a classical nude model and culminates with a single, sustained pose for the remainder of the session. Bring your own materials. Walk-ins and late arrivals welcome, no experience necessary! learn more

Print & Dye: Screenprinting with Mordants
November 17 | 11 am–5 pm | $155
In this workshop with visiting artist Kenya Miles, you will learn how to register and print multiple colors, mix transparent base into ink to create overlays of color, and ‘unhinge’ the screen and print large. You will leave with 3 yards of bespoke printed fabric, a screen of your own, and the skills to do it again. learn more

Cut, Paste, Narrate: A Collage Workshop

Stories bind us together, but how do they change as bits are left out and pieces are added in? In this collage workshop you will practice constructing narrative-based works by experimenting with the scale of objects, composition, and color schemes. You will leave the class with a small series of unique collages. No experience necessary! learn more

Plaster Relief Printed Wrapping Paper
November 19 | 7–9 pm | $40
Plaster as a relief medium allows for very gestural and intuitive work for adults as well as children old enough to safely handle a sharp tool. It’s a simple process you can do at home. By incorporating thinner paper and repetitive prints, you’ll take home a few large sheets of wrapping paper to use for gifts or decoration for your own seasonal projects! learn more

Pulp Casting from Vegetables
November 20 | 7–9 pm | $40
We’ll have stations set up to cast thin sheets of wet paper onto plant matter. Once dried, they create hollow, lightweight forms with an abstract, ecological touch. Great for anyone interested in natural sculpture or expanding their view of papermaking! All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own dried materials to cast onto. learn more

Screenprinted Thanksgiving Place Cards

Come get geared up for hosting, and learn to make prints with a patterned border that can be used as dinner table place cards, seasonal greetings, or you name it! No experience or preparation necessary! learn more

Print Your Own Holiday Cards
November 23 | 10 am–1 pm | $75
Make your own set of 12 screenprinted seasonal greeting cards! You’ll learn how to hand-print from a screen to create festive cards. We’ll have a selection of wintery, Christmas, and New Years imagery prepared for you to mix and match. Hedi Kyle’s Innovative Structures, Part 1
December 7 & 8 | 10 am–5 pm | $375
The myriad structures invented by Hedi Kyle have had an enormous impact on the field of book arts. Artists far and wide have been influenced by her masterful paper engineering and genius for transforming the architecture and action of the book. This workshop introduces some of Hedi’s gems, such as the spider book, fishbone fold, pivoting panels, and blizzard book. learn more

Design & Print Your Own Holiday Cards
You’ll be introduced to the screenprinting process to create festive cards using your own holiday-themed images and phrases. In advance of the class, you’ll be asked to send us your choice of image or personalized greeting that we will prepare in order to quick-start your card-making fun. Tiny Book Party: Holiday Edition
Learn how to make a series of tiny books: perfect for gift-giving, personalization, and decoration! We will go over pamphlet variations, buttonhole stitch, and softcover with wraparound ties. Everyone is encouraged to experiment and come up with their own ways to sew tiny books as well. You’ll leave with several tiny books to gift, trade, or keep! learn more

Color Collagraphs
December 8 & 15 | 12–4 pm | $210
Collagraphs are one of the most accessible forms of intaglio printmaking, allowing artists to build their plates by adhering a variety of textures and materials directly to a matboard plate with adhesive. We’ll explore working with shaped plates, inking using the viscosity method, and experimenting with ghost printing and embossment. learn more

Wood Type: Wintry Greetings

Introduction to Western Papermaking
This workshop covers the basic techniques of Western-style hand papermaking, including pulp prep, sheet forming, couching, pressing, drying, and includes an overview of decorative techniques. Pulp additives such as sizing, retention agents, and formation aid are also covered. A great introduction for new students and refresher for out-of-practice papermakers! learn more

Block Printed Winter Greetings
In this short-form workshop, you will learn how to carve your own design on soft linoleum blocks. We will keep winter season themes in mind, but ultimately the design is up to you!
