Exciting news! They’ve expanded our SOWI dates to include DCPS, MCPS, and private schools!

When school is out, they provide day-long programming that combines an arts-integrated curriculum that teaches core principles and techniques with plenty of movement and play.

Every Saturday
10:00am – 12:00pm
Ages: 8 months to 3 years old

Open studio time for toddlers and their accompanying adults. Even the youngest children can explore a variety of age-appropriate art materials in a safe, fun environment. Siblings, young and old, are always welcome.

Saturdays, January 20 – March 10
(8-week Course)
3:30pm – 5:00pm
Ages: 8 through 12 years old

Learn the basics of stop motion video in this 8-week course. Kids will be paired off into small groups to plan out a simple storyline and work together to create a stop motion video.

Friday, January 26th
6:00pm – 9:00pm
Ages: 3 through 12 years old

Every last Friday of the month, enjoy some time out while your kids enjoy some time in at Art Works. They will have an evening filled with a special art activity and finish the night with pizza and play.

The Art of Resistance
Thursday, January 18th

FREE w/ Suggested Donation of $5

Join us for a night of screenprinting and discussing current events at our free social justice workshop. Finished pieces can be used for upcoming protests, including the March to the Polls on Saturday, January 20th in Washington, DC.

Poster paper will be supplied for screenprinting. If you’d like to print on other materials like t-shirts, please bring them! We will have blank screens and stencil paper available for participants to paint and cut out their own designs and slogans (please keep them simple). This workshop is being taught by artist Natalie Zeitz.

Learn the basics of painting with acrylic! You will finish this class with an understanding of different application techniques, the basics of color mixing, how to layout a painting, and a completed work of art!

Thursdays, February 1 – February 22
(4-week Course)
7:00pm – 9:00pm
Ages: 15 years old and up

Explore ways to create fresh collages with a focus on building a story and surface. We will teach you how to create picturesque collages that will incorporate drawing, painting, and stamping.

Tuesdays & Thursdays, Starting in March
(10-week Course)
Ages: 15 years old and up

Learn basic skills on the potter’s wheel, including wheel throwing and glazing. Group instruction is combined with one-on-one support. Starting in March, we have three new sessions for beginners and intermediate potters. Day class and night classes are available.
