For one colorful day, the pavement at Reston Town Center becomes the canvas—and all artists are invited to make their mark and compete for prizes at ChalkFest 2026. This annual and popular event will take place on Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Presented by Public Art Reston, ChalkFest transforms Market Street into a colorful outdoor gallery as artists create original chalk works directly on the pavement throughout the day. The event welcomes artists and visitors to watch the creative process unfold from blank pavement to finished works of art.
Registration is now open in two categories: Amateur Artists: $30 and Families & Kids: $20. Professional Artist participation is by invitation only.
Amateur artists and families interested in participating are encouraged to register early, as ChalkFest has sold out in previous years.
Registered participants receive a designated pavement square and a complete chalk art kit, so no additional chalk supplies are required. Chalking begins at 10:00 a.m., with artists working throughout the day before judging begins at 4:00 p.m. Winners will be announced at 5:00 p.m., with prizes awarded in each category as well as People’s Choice Awards.
In addition to the chalk art competition, visitors can enjoy live music by Bach to Rock Herndon and free face painting. The event is free and open to the public.
Businesses and community organizations can also participate by sponsoring ChalkFest or registering a team. Past ChalkFest events have attracted more than 1,000 visitors to Reston Town Center.
